One of our favorite monthly tasks is delivering fresh designs to two very inspiring organizations. Room to Grow enriches the lives of babies born into poverty throughout their critical first three years of development. Community Cooks is a group of more than 80 residents of Somerville, Cambridge, and the vicinity that contribute a portion of a meal to a shelter or service program in the community. Here are a couple recent summer pieces that clients were able to enjoy! Blooms of Hope is in awe of the wonderful support that these two organizations provide to people in need.

It is always wonderful to add a special touch to your bridal bouquet to make it even more special! Attach an item from a loved one like a necklace, bracelet, or brooch to your handle. This way you can carry them with you as you walk down that momentous aisle!

Two different styles for your table centerpieces

Don't choose just one style of centerpiece! Mix it up like Meg and Brian did for their 4th of July celebration. We maintained the hot pink and navy color scheme throughout but used gerber daisies/calla lilies in one style and sprays of dendrobium orchids in another.

The inspiration behind the business...

I started Blooms of Hope in 2007 as a floral business with a twist: Customers get floral arrangements for their celebrations while at the same time giving back. It all began with a quote from Lady Bird Johnson, “Where flowers bloom, so does hope”.

At the time, I was a new mom feeling stressed and anxious about my new role and burdened by the negativity surrounding us in the world. Needing something hopeful to focus on, I turned to the two things that I love most--flowers and non-profits. I completed a course of study at Rittners School of Floral Design and began delivering floral arrangements to Room to Grow, an organization close to my heart. From there, the idea of combining the purchase of special-occasion flowers with charitable giving came to fruition. My formal business plan includes giving back 50% of my profits to various charitable causes. This gives my clients an opportunity to buy something while also contributing to their communities. In 2008, weddings became a perfect match for this mission. I began to offer couples who spent over a certain amount to choose the charity to which the 50% donation would go.

Since its start more than two years ago, Blooms of Hope has donated flowers and/or 50% of every flower purchase to dozens of organizations. The monetary donation to Room to Grow will be used this year to raise awareness and funds by hosting a fundraiser at the Skywalk Observatory on September 19th.

Other organizations benefiting from Blooms of Hope's 2009 monetary donations will include:

National Multiple Sclerosis Society

In addition to our ongoing support of Room to Grow (in the form of both our monthly floral delivery to its offices and fundraising events like their Fall Gala and the La Primavera event sponsored by Misstropolis), Blooms of Hope has donated flowers to:

The Belmont Women’s Club, in the form of flowers for Strawberry Festival and a piano concert
Cambridge Friends School, in the form of flowers for faculty meeting and Elders Day
The Learning Center, a private special education school, in the form of flowers for its prom
Children’s Glaucoma Foundation, in the form of floral design for silent auction
Decibels Foundation, in the form of discounted floral arrangements for a fundraiser
Community Cooks, in the form of flowers to accompany monthly food deliveries

and we began offering a 30% discount to all non-profits needing floral arrangements for fundraising events.

Finally, I joined the Room to Grow Collection Committee and organized a successful “Spring Cleaning Drive” hosted by Blooms of Hope. Over 35 families and businesses contributed goods and three vanfuls of great stuff was delivered in mid-May 2009.
